It's the Golden Fang, again—still.
There's somebody, more likely a lot of somebodies, every bit as
corrupt, as impacted into the war profiteering business as Howard
Hughes was, right now, in this world, working out these sorts of
backroom deals with the usual combination of payoffs and threats in
the hope of amassing even greater profits. Think of Nixon and Hughes,
all the outright bribes, the level of sleaze at the bottom of the
Watergate burglary and how far and how fast it spread into the rest of
the country. Think of how much further and widespread payoffs to
congress-people via lobbyists have become in our time.
You don't mess with the Golden Fang . . .
