Right.

But I think the new strategy is to bring Taliban back into the fold
through jobs/bribes, not to eliminate them.

Taliban is still an ugly group.  Remember the executions in the soccer
arena?  And blowing up the ancient Buddha statue?

I'm actually glad that Pakistan has seen an increase of extremist
violence within its borders.  Their chickens coming home might force
them to rethink their own identity.
