well, characterologically, the richness is in the way that
"if there's that much paper on the guy, some Paul Krassner dude
is gonna find out eventually so we gotta make him go 'way"
in the minds of Them (them being those who aren't we,
we being, to the extent we can bring ourselves to sympathize
with their imperfections, Doc's circle)...
...becomes, they toss Bigfoot a crumb,
and although he's like a hanger-on -maybe like a retrovirus
stuck halfway into the exterior membrane of them -
his outer side is exposed to Doc and affected by him (Locard's principle)
so in serving their purpose, he certainly can satisfy something
that Doc can believe in as vengeance for his partner
and if "they" are a cell of some kind, with Bigfoot stuck in their outer circle,
then certainly Doc's friends can be envisioned as a similar kind of
setup but a different kind of cell, hosting Doc on its own exo-sphere
as an antibody-type thing...
wait, did I just give Them HIV? That's not exactly what I meant...
Let's say They already have HIV (murderousness) and Doc's antibodies
aren't enough
to immediately save the cell by himself, but he changes Bigfoot minutely...
and yet more minutely changes Them...homeopathically (Gaaahhh, kreplach!)

just fine!"
