IV Romancing the Officeplace

Why Ghidrah? Despite the abundance of film and tv references in P's
stuff, IV sees him returning to Godzilla movies several times (which
have already been referred to in earlier novels). Same with Star Trek
- gags thereupon in the last three books. That's too many jokes about
the one show for my taste. Does it suggest lazy recycling or something
more vital about these texts? For my money, it just suggests that
Pynchon is a big old geek at heart.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
