I remember you mentioned The Looming Tower quite a while back. I
looked it up, but isn't Wright a fairly right-wing guy, with a track
record of slightly Islamaphobic views? I'm going from memory, but I
think he co-wrote the screenplay for a dodgy Bruce Willis movie which
contained some pretty unpleasant stereotyping of muslims?
<< The good news is that the United States is a lot richer and more
powerful than the Soviet Union was, and the Taliban’s backers are a
lot poorer and weaker than the mujahedeen’s backers were. >>
Heh. The US is (still) a lot richer, and the Tabiban's backers are a
lot poorer than the mujahedeen's backers (i.e. the US) were..... What
goes around comes around, no?
<< Even in our weakened post-Bush, post-Iraq, post-recession state
we can afford to be sloppy with our allocation of resources >>
Aye, for a while anyway. ANother sub-prime type crisis might put a
dent in that though.
The other side of all this is that the actions of the US and the UK
(and others) in Iraq, Afghanistan, and with regard to Israel, mean we
will all be living in fear of terrorist attacks for generations.
