Here's a nice illustration of how compicated this can get. My go-to
source for a review of The Looming Tower? The Guardian, naturally. The
reviewer? None other than Tariq ALi (who has been suggested here
recently as a possible Inherent Vice resonance):

But Ali is one of these old Lefties who have got the post-9/11 world
very muddled, in my view. His main criticism of Wright's book is that
Wright ignores the links between Al Quaida and "Islamists in Bosnia"!
It's hugely odd that Tariq Ali feels the source for anyone seeking an
insight into the links between teh US and Bin Laden should be the
"official Dutch inquiry into the Srebrenica massacre", since (a) we
all know about those links anyway, and (b) the Dutch were chiefly
responsible for the shameful actions of the UN with regard to allowing
the Serbs a free hand to slaughter in Srebrenica. Weird, weird stuff.
