Seriously—think about it. This scene is one of the more interesting  
linkages to a central theme in Gravity's Rainbow—a book pretty much  
obsessed with some pretty soulless S & M, among other interesting &  
unusual activities. While GR is set during the last days of WWII, the  
subtext is L.A. in the late sixties/early seventies.
