Pearlman on Pynchon

I think we're just quibbling here.  We have two people that knew him
well that say he wrote under the influence.  "While wasted" is your
phrase, but Jules (and we know his ego problems) did indicate that
he'd come back to things he's written while tripping and wonder what
he'd meant.  I wouldn't be surprised if that were true. as Pearlman
says, "Looking back on it, I think Pynchon saw his life as mainly
being concerned with writing, and experimenting with ideas in writing
that nobody had tried before."  I think his experimental writing might
extend to trying to do so while stoned or tripping.  But I don't
believe he did so exclusively or predominantly...
