Despite steady assertion since the beginning, you have yet to show---as can be done, is done---with Good Soldier, Remains of the Day----what the narrator has gotten wrong that changes the whole meaning of the novel.
Haven't done it and can't. You just keep saying it--he--is.
I still argue that P's noir parody, and he is using more than Chandler, I"m sure, owes a lot to Chandler, ---particular novels can be piece- mapped. That kind of parodying is not 'postmodern' to me necessarily; I've just read Austen do it in Northanger Abbey re Radcliffe and some other Gothic fictions.....
jane's Catherine in Northanger Abbey distorts the world more from her book imagination than Doc ever does with his pot and whatever.
