On pg. 51 we learn that Larry fell behind on his car payments and was
hired as a skip-tracer. Does the outfit, Gotcha! Searches and
Settlements, ever come after his Tube? I can't recall this. That they
come after his Ride seems rather significant since, as I noted in a
prior post, Larry's Toilet Memory Trip back to the Lighthouse includes
all manner of guilt and envy, including his guilt about the Rides that
are Repoed from Studio Musicians. In a novel about Work ("WHAT was he
working for anymore" p. 314) and why people end up doing what they do,
even when what they do is take advantage of other relatively poor and
powerless preterite and then work off their guilt through some karmic
adjustment system, where, as Bigfoot sez, what goes around and comes
around never quite lands on the same number on fortune's wheel, these
details are worth paying attention to. But I could have missed the
Tube repo. In any event, it's the Tube, and addiction to it, that is,
Denis, is sorta like Homer's pal Barney here, all the gals come to sit
on the couch and munch junk, and America's TV addiction that is the
source of the parody. Sensitive! Yeah, The Tube! But the Rides are,
like some drive-in in 1970, Tubes for Boobs too.
