1) Vato and Blood - embarrassing stereotypes?
2) you know I'm gonna say not, but I could see where you might make a
case for it.
3) Benny Profane in V.'s Hispanic friends had a savor not so terribly
different. It's a fairly simple thing to deconstruct any
offensiveness: inspiration from Cheech and Chong; his white-guy,
Japanese, Irish etc stereotypes are as potentially insulting, which
isn't too very insulting really but more an affectionate rendering.
Vato and Blood come across as actually very sharp, sympathetic
customers. The dap exchange to the tune of Zarathustra, for
example...and the recreational bickering - which is an example of what
was mentioned but not really detailed as an element in the coherence
of Van Meter's Cucumber Lounge community - is fun to read. The bit
about the dome light in the car, for instance...
