Just wanted to add that the idea of the Axial Age was first developed by
the philosopher Karl Jaspers (see especially "Vom Ursprung und Ziel der
Geschichte", 1949) and, later on, got operationalized for the Social
Sciences by the sociologist Shmuel N. Eisenstadt. Useful theorem, imo.
