Great posts, Bekah.

There are a number of Parrot references in ATD. Frank (possibly under the influence of a smokable hallucinogen)encounters a foul-mouthed parrot named Joaquin in Mexico (p. 385-389). Then on pages 924-925, in the midst of a super-long Pynchonesque sentence describing Frank's peyote dream, parrots crop up in all their hallucinogenic, psychedelic glory. In short: parrots=tripping.
