Objectively speaking, I am a pompous gasbag? Well I don't know how 
*you* can
label *me* pompous - the words 'pot' and 'kettle' spring to mind - but 
surely
your use of 'objective' here is, in iteself, farily subjective? 
Otherwise, I
could say to you something along these lines: Objectively speaking, you 
are a
whiny little cunt, who wouldn't dare to talk to me in person the way 
you do
online, so why should I take your attacks seriously?

Maybe I am a gasbag, I dunno, that's for others to judge, but it 
doesn't feel
like I post to this list very often, or at much length. I don't think 
you do
either, these days, do you? Of course, your posts are all about 
negativity and
cowardly personal attacks. The post which caused you to leap up and 
attack me,
was something I said about Thomas Pynchon, and another author, and the 
way
American post-war literature is talked about in the English press, i.e. 
here
where I live, and my frustration over the fact that they laud to the 
skies
writers such as Roth (who I like a lot) and Updike (who I'm not so keen 
on,
Rabbit books aside), while often failing to even mention, never mind 
laud,
Pynchon, who I consider to be *at least* as worthy of veneration as 
those guys.
In other words, I was posting about Pynchon. You were just sniping at 
me.

And you got Roth's age wrong, as well as the=2
0title of his recent book. 
It's
'Exit Ghost', not 'Enter Ghost'. And it was crap.

You can carry on and attack me again if you like, I promise I won't 
even read
