I want to pick up on Laura's remarks in this way: whereever we stand on these
"progressive' issues, I think Vineland has a deep underlying vision that 60s progressives--
all American progressives---
have to ACT to be the change they believe in, never to rest in nostalgia for when it
was good, not even, as I have argued, to just "watch'---24fps---...............

I worry that Obama's presidency is serving to weaken the grass roots movements who feel their role is to support everything he does. I'm pretty upset with MoveOn.org. They gave uncritical and complete support for the Stimulus package, as if only Republicans might have objections to it. On the day Obama announced that he was sending 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan, MoveOn.org sent out e-mails announcing that 96% (not including me) support their decision to shift their focus away from anti-war activities and towards community organizing on green issues. They've left ANSwER and UFPJ to host competing and fractured anti-war marches. It's disturbing.
