p. 72, Frenesi "could not imagine" that Nixon, Hoover would be gone. Living in 'the moment' --in her sense-- is a failure of imagination: imagination as containing a sense of "history and the dead" ?, "what is possible to be""in the old-fashioned, 18th Century Johnsonian meaning of imaginable?
p.72 "The Repression went on..wider, deeper, less visible". Notice, Not Supression, not Authority but Repression (with one of TRPs signature Capitalizations) ....psychoanalytic tradition term as well. Very heavy concept in "Life Against Death'. Usually implies that self-expression was stifled. Here is another use: "The purges which affected cultural life in the Czech regions, and to a lesser degree in Slovakia, in the early 1970s, and the represssion they suffered over twenty years"."
"some other motive, less luminous" [re cracking down on minor lawbreakers]-----petty revenge/resentment?
