p. 77....They were activists 'before Mario Savio".....the Old Left, not the New Left, as the distinction was made back in the day..
 
p. 78 ...Sasha had a performer's improvisatory presence...And she could sing..... Hubbell 'listened' to her"first man ever did that"...they were a politically involved couple that was not very political......To speak to Michael Bailey's question (re the political being less ideological and more personal in Vineland): Sasha saw injustices DIRECTLY, more as one man doing to another.........
 
More generational entropy, so to speak? Or, more simply human a response?
