so the parallel is
F straying from the letter of the family tradition but in many ways
keeping the spirit
w/r/t picket lines but also loving the light, and doing work she loves
(fucking, finding out stuff, what's not to like?) for people she hates
- as her father also had to do...

and likewise DL running from the American martial tradition into the
Japanese martial tradition...finding her skills in demand from the Mob
as well as the counterculture; and finding a new career with Takeshi,
the specifics of which emerge stealthily as we go along...
