Well yes indeedy—at the same time, remember that there is "high magic  
in low puns."  Pynchon takes all with a grain of salt but generally  
respects the stuff that works. Note as well that all though Vineland  
our beloved author takes pot-shots at all things "new age" and points  
out many of the follies of the earlier "new age" of the theosophists  
in Against the Day.
