this buttresses robin's point about the nature of American society
being not too many removes from totalitarian or fascist

and it's a lever for drawing a comparison (hee hee) to Gravity's
Rainbow, in the TS Eliotan sense of the end of journeyings being to
come home and know the place for the first time
