Vineland's trees

It is drought that weakens the trees' ability to resist the beetle
infestations. A pine tree's normal response to beetles when they bore
into the cambium layer is to drown the bugs with sap composed of
sugars derived from photosynthesis, nutrients from water uptake
through the roots and, of course, lots of water. California has
experienced several protracted droughts over the last three decades.
And yeah, that does sound like a climatological problem doesn't it?
(FYI: I am a formerly certified arborist who has made a life study of
trees and forest systems. Not that I know it all, but I have some
background on which to offer this insight.)
