With the creation of the Commission to Counteract the Falsification of
History to the Detriment of Russian Interests, Russian President
Dmitry Medvedev has upped the stakes in recent efforts to pressure
former Soviet states -- in particular, the Baltic states -- to adhere
to a uniform Russian history. Russia has accused the governments of
Estonia and Latvia of lionizing partisans who fought on the side of
Nazis against Soviet forces.
