	. . .While you can name anyone as executor, it’s best to check
	whether the person is willing and able. After reading The Crying
	of Lot 49, I’d be wary. The book raises questions about why the
	deceased might have picked her as executor but never really
	answers them. It might have been a practical joke. He might
	have done it out of spite — she was an ex- girlfriend who
	married someone else. It could be that he never figured out
	where the weird stamps he was collecting came from and had
	recognised her detective abilities.

	Luckily, the dead tycoon had no dependants. His selected
	executor does not finish winding up his estate by the end of the
	book.

	Sadly, in real life wills often turn out to be boxes of nasty
	surprises every bit as disturbing as The Crying of Lot 49. . .
