Pardon my list-nanny routine, but ... or, Ware's Tim when we need him?

Why did so many people seem to decide a few weeks ago that it was good list etiquette to stop using plane text and to stop snipping egregiously extraneous multiply-embedded old threads? It gets so bad that sometimes I'm tempted to suspect the worst offender, whom I won't name, of doing it on purpose on the juvenile  principle that causing annoyance is better than being ignored. Please, foax, clean up your acts. Beyond the annoyance factor, some messages are all but unreadable, and links won't work if there's garbage in them. Thanks.
