The animated image of the dude with the paper bag over his head
appeared on the Simpsons three times, but only twice featured
Pynchon's vocal talents.
The equally reclusive Glenn Gould was every bit as bizarre in his
withdrawal from the world as Proust, maintaining a vampire shift in
his sleep cycles, awake in the wee small hours and calling up his
friends, who he maintained relations via marathon late night phone
calls.
He designed his solitude to suit himself, like a pearly shell. He
made it a work of art. He distanced himself from other people's
emotions -- and then he was brilliant.

Gould composed "documentaries" on the subject of solitude:
He adored Arrowroot cookies, Barbra Streisand and animals.
He abhorred sunlight, the stage and airplanes.
