Have to give the guy credit for writing a great memoir.  Will does a really good job of mapping the psyche of a hardcore zealot, and not flinching at (and at points, reveling in) his own horrible qualities. Like that crazy setpiece where he invades Timothy Leary's compound to find people shitting on the floors and acting like animals.  It's so unreal that it can only be seen as a projection of Liddy's own fears (not that Leary isn't a problematic figure on his own).  Still, for all of the lies in the book, it's a much more honest look at himself than anything Nixon was ever able to do.

I went to see GGL speak a decade or two ago now.  During teh Q&A
afterwards, some wiseguy (no, not me ...) asked him, "Hey, G. Gordon,
what does rat taste like?"  Liddy waited for teh laughter to die down,
then dedanned, "a lot like squirrel."  Do not mess ...
