would it be too obvious to think that IV will somehow involve both
sides of the hippie dream--its manifestations in events like Woodstock
on the one hand and Manson Family on the other.
Looking over Manson's rap sheet the man is a strikingly example or
afflcted with some aspect of  inherent vice, no?
We know Pynchon likes these radical opposites.

wouldn't be surprised also if like Sofia Kovalesky there are
tangential references to the above.

also curious to know what the LAPD did, if anything, post-Manson--did
they crack down on the hippies even more (don't recall who the mayor
was in 1970, anybody?)
