i have to laugh at reviewers who are shocked and dismayed that a novel
about an unrepentant Nazis is highly repugnant.
What I find repugnant is her equating Littell's work with Thomas Harris.
maybe its the gay sex, maybe its the incest, maybe its the shit-filled
world of these barabarians, maybe its the "gruesome comedy" of mass
murder.
these folks want more schlinder-like stories to feel good about what u
can't feel good about
still think daniel mendelson's review in the NY Review Books is the
best i've read.
