there's a brief but detailed visit to the Mittelwerke in the Kindly
Ones where Speer is given a tour of the place and is appalled--this
would be late 1943 I think
also some small musings on German colonies and the work of Von Trotha.
This telling line is quoted in the book quoting Von Trotha: 'I wipe
out rebellious tribes with streams of blood and streams of money."
just as relevant to the French in Algeria, the Brits in Kenya, the
Yanks in Vietnam and Iraq, etc. (and many etcs sadly)
But is Trotha referring to the absolute requirement for said blood the
sine qua non of which is in fact money? the commerce and slaughter go
hand in hand?
