Yeah, again, AL, RTFM. But for those following along @ home, RMN
benefits from a Constitutional amendment undoing the one instuting
term limit after FDRs not quite four term reign. I think Moore,
having had the US win the Vietnam war, wanted to stay both in the
actual year of publication for maximum alternate history
unheimlichkeit (?), but with VW (Imperial Volkswagen!) elements, and,
perhaps not wanting to extrapolate too much further ...
I do recall him explicitly not wanting to use Reagan (who Frank Miller
nonetheless may have given an even longer administration to in The
Dark Knight Returns) ...

I'm hitting a second screening tonight (friend's birthday party), and
will (hopefully) hold comment 'til after that, but I tend to agree
with the KCS review, albeit more in what it says about the film's
flaws than it's strengths, as well as in comparison to other genre
films. Though I will note tat The Return of the King suffered not
from too many, but from too few, endings. Or, at least, from the lack
of its most important denouement, the Scouring of the Shire. Again,
I'd like a second viewing, but I do think Snyder missed some Very
Important Elements Indeed, at least on my reading (inc. three made in
the past week or so alone, among dozens to scores to ...) though they
may have fell victim to editing rather than shooting. I want to watch
for what I think I missed, what I might have missed, and what's
definitely missing this time around ...
But I'd certainly say, don't knock it 'til you've tried it. And
definitely try it, so ...
