Thanks kindly for that-- I browse TMW's P essays from time to time but
skipped over that one. Out of cowardice, I suppose; you see a favored
writer's name associated w/ discussing 'cyberspace' or any of a dozen
other topical buzzwords and sometimes you wanna retreat lest you hear
something embarrassing. Not that I thought for a second P'd fuck it up,
just...
(This used to happen to me w/ Wm. Burroughs. Interview's bubbling right
along, hitting all his best & frequently blue notes, then Bill drops in some
emotionally stunted snark about Love being a Venusian conspiracy and
the Sympathetic Blush begins, fading in from the nose & throat first and
rapidly washing across your face like a hot, poisoned wind; you look 'round
to see if anyone's noticed what you're reading, but of course, Paranoia...)
A favorite bit:
*"Does anybody know the way to William Gibson's 'Republic of Desire?'"
*
I would love-- love! --to hear P discuss Gibson further. Gibson'd dig it
too.
Also pleased to note Pynchon's citing of Levi at the end, there. Gonna
have to keep on eye out for that rosy cross of Know / Will / Dare / Silent,
yes sir...
