Slothrop's deconstruction, beginning on p.231 (Bantam)

Way back in the 2nd MD reading here, I also noted a creature with
many parallels to Slothrop: the mechanical duck.

1. He was constructed/engineered to perform for its maker.
2. He broke free, escaped from, his maker.
3. He went on a journey.
4. He eventually disappeared.

I'd say the duck is a clear case of transcendence over his maker's
intentions. The Golem is a similar case, a Frankenstein's monster who
became more than his creator's intentions.
