I'd suggest it's central to the book's message:
the cordiality Zoyd and Hector develop, for instance;
the detente Zoyd arrives at with Sasha;
the friendly bickering of Vato and Blood;
the Vomitones' gig at the Wayvone wedding and the way they're able to
avoid bloodshed;
DL and Takeshi's work with the Thanatoids so they don't go bansheeing
around, but instead hold roasts and Weed is eventually even able to
become a buddy (or maybe something even more) of Prairie's;
Zoyd's choice between alternatives of armed attack or legal action to
regain his house, which - Zoyd being a "bear of very little brain" - I
strongly suspect he'll take it to court...;
the suggestion of a line which cannot be crossed, a line not drawn by
man or men but inchoate in the Creation - that line being, perhaps,
civility...
