We know from GR that Pynchon sees a death wish buried in the fascist
instinct. Hitler invading Russia, Vond going beyond even the nasty
the boundaries of the Reagan domestic agenda, and perhaps beyond the
limits of Karmic adjustment or any redemptive movement. Also he seems
to expect that those he pursues have learned nothing, don't have the
resources to resist him or take evasive measures. The fascist thinks
he can endlessly divide and conquer but encounters a network of
resistance the 2nd time around. This isn't all about the failures of
the left and the counterculture movement there is also growth here, a
reconnection to family, friendship, place, roots. Meanwhile Vond is
more and more alone.
