there's plenty of it in the movie, too

I think the movie would be pointlessly morbid if not for all the
political points it makes about the state of Soviet society in the
mid-80s.

There is really only one character in the movie who is worthy of
sympathy and her crime if you want to call it that is perfectly
understandable, almost laudable
