I think Oedipa's primary affinity with Oedipus is to be found in her role as detective/seeker,
rather than the psychological part. Still, the psychiatric subtext does seem important in the novel.
It is worth noting that according to the OED (!), the first appearance in print of
the noun "shrink" was in Lot 49.
