Don't forget that Tricky Dicky figures in the last section of GR  
driving a 'black managerial Volkswagen' and that Oedipa goes 'hunting  
for Volkswagens' on the freeway later on in Lot49 after her run-in  
with Winthrop Tremaine in the army surplus store.

Volkswagens in Pynchon seem to be synecdoches for Nazi Germany.
