During 1947, NAA/Rocketdyne had selected acreage in the
Santa Susana Mountains near Canoga Park,California for
development as a permanent test site adaptable for testing a
broad range of liquid-fueled components and propulsion
systems. The site was selected because of its mountain top
isolation and its many natural rocky bowls.
The first test stands to be erected at Santa Susana’s Bowl Test
Facility were patterned after those used at the German WWII
test facilities at Pennemunde.

The Galactronics Division of Yoyodyne has its parallel in the Atomics
International division of Rockeydyne:

Google "Atomics International division of Rockeydyne" and you get a
lot of papers involving lawsuits attached to the site's health hazards:

Viz the "waste" theme of CoL49, consider the radiological wasting of
Semi Valley by Atomics International—
Work began Nov. 9 on what will be a massive cleanup in the
hills near Simi Valley in eastern Ventura County. The
remediation began after the state’s Department of Toxic
Substances Control (DTSC) issued lab owners Boeing and the
NASA an Imminent and Substantial Endangerment Order on
Nov. 1 for the cleanup of asbestos-containing material strewn
along the creek bed from 1965 to 1978 by lab workers working
at the former NASA liquid oxygen plant (LOX) nearby. The order
also requires cleanup of the Rocketdyne-Atomics International
Rifle and Pistol Club shooting range where elevated
concentrations of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have
been found in the soil near and down stream of the former
shooting range.
