There might be a kind of farfetched "voice" connection between Dr. 
Hallarious and Hans Conreid.

Conreid who was born in Baltimore and raised mostly in New York City had 
(even when he wasn't playing a German psychoanalyst) a vaguely European but 
not quite identifiable accent that couldn't possibly have been his own. I 
heard him interviewed one time. He said that he always hated the sound of 
his natural voice so he made a new more suitable one up and stuck with it.
