of course, if I think about it a little, there's still no
disagreement.  Who could expect an author to be objective, especially
about the merits of his or her own work?
He may have stated what he thought, but it doesn't mean he was
completely accurate in any objectively verifiable way.  Also, he may
have been overwhelmed into self-deprecation by Hollander's formidable
references (the way some people [many people] are by GR et al.)
