The "banality of the majority" effect is universal. As a mostly Anglo
American, I'm prone like most of my peers to think I inherit a (yawn) feel
for the white-bread placid norm-al UK; it's an unwritten premise of
multiculti studies that all the cool edgy interesting elements are African
American, Native American, Latino, Cajun, Amish, what-have-you.
Then every once in a while something like this (or Mason & Dixon, or
Godolphin or Cyprian or...) comes along to jolt us into seeing afresh that
there's all the weirdness we can handle, and more, within the scepter'd
isle. By god, next election I *am* going to vote the straight Monster Raving
Loony ticket. It's the way of my people.
