"Please, forget the Smith"
- thought it was a Heckler & Koch, copyediting error, or stoner-brain?
who gives a crap about gun lore anyway (I know, I know, lotsa people
do, but I don't plan to cover it)

Doc is reassuring Boris, we're talking about his ex- but he's not
going to take it personally.
Maybe Boris is a little unnerved by Doc after all...

So, anyway, Sloane, the wife, wasn't in on Mickey's plans. But we
absolutely know Riggs Warbling WAS
in on them, he's the zome guy, and he was supposedly sleeping with
Sloane (Doc's intuition anyway.)
But maybe at that point he wasn't, or was but wasn't sharing secrets.

Boris's knowledge comes from Mickey, but also from Shasta, who
apparently saw him as
a confidante. He stresses to Doc that she liked him (Boris) as a
friend...and had passed him
(Boris) a wheat straw cigarette paper with some license plate numbers
she'd written on it, of cars that had
tailed her or "cruised" the rental house in Hancock Park

(of which - Hancock Park - wikipedia has this to say:
-In sharp contrast to most Los Angeles neighborhoods, houses in
Hancock Park are set well back from the street, most power and
-telephone lines are buried, and fences are strongly discouraged.
-one of the most desirable areas in all of Southern California ever
since its development, and the average household income of its
-residents consistently ranks among the highest in the United States
-As of 2006, an estimated 20 percent of Hancock Park's 1,250 homes
were reportedly owned by Orthodox Jews
(this is relevant because Mickey's Jewish. Is it interesting that a
progressive notion
like free housing would issue from a Jewish person and be squelched by
Them? Only
if you don't know of the wonderful Jewish presence in the annals of
emancipatory social thought!)

"...there was suddenly an army of guys in suits around Mickey's place
- only kind
I can ID on sight is Mormons and FBI, if there's a difference, and I'm
still not too sure what
these were."

Boris is being a bit vague, skips around a bit...Doc is trying to find
out - if indeed
Mickey had secretly planned his giveaway to avoid Sloane's anticipated
machinations
(which indeed seem to have occurred, but at this point we're still
finding out), if there
is some info that will help him (Doc), such as the names of any
lawyers who might have
been working with Mickey - presumably so as to visit his (Doc's) brand
of detection on them (the lawyers), right?

But no names, just the license plate numbers on the wheatstraw paper.
Boris doesn't want Doc to have the police run them, because he
suspects the police are in on it,
and he thinks this should be obvious to Doc:
"What are you a doctor of, tripping? University of what planet again?"

declaring eternal hostility to poverty, racism, and militarism." -
