--- also, not in the text right here, but something I wanted to write
down before I forget:

it seems to be stressed that nobody reads. Doc only reads a teen porn
magazine, actually doesn't
even read that anymore since somebody's intercepting it, apparently.
Shasta lacks a notebook
or even scratch paper. This is noteworthy in an author so evidently
literate. What do it mean?
Well, as Mr Natural used to say...

Oh: exception: Downstairs Eddie!
---------------------------------------

Clancy is deep in conversation, we learned on page 148, with two bikers...
Boris indicates this is copacetic for Clancy, so they shouldn't worry,
in fact quite the reverse.

Doc and Boris bow to the inevitable and go out to the parking lot.

Boris has a '46 Dodge Power Wagon
http://imageevent.com/powerwagon/flatfenders;jsessionid=qv9qzgmua7.penguin_s
big truck for a big guy...

Boris wonders if the ploy they pulled on page 148 to get kicked out
of Knucklehead Jack's without seeming to be "keeping company" as it
were, worked.
Doc lights them a pair of Kools (apparently that's not gay in this context,
not that there's anything wrong with that...)(maybe he hands it to
Boris, then lights it)

- note: early on in the book, filterless Kools are specified (AFAIK
rare even then, I only
saw them on sale in the 'neckiest of redneck stores) with the strong implication
that they were standard jailhouse issue...

[possible SPOILER]
later in the book, Doc's Kool has a filter

Doc "lift[s] one bell-bottom cuff to reveal a little short-
barreled Model 27" and talks about Heckler and Koch...sez,
there's enough room in his bellbottoms for an H&K

I don't care for guns.
However, I know a little bit about hyperbole, and curiosity got the
better of me:
Model 27 is a Smith and Wesson
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith_%26_Wesson_Model_27

Heckler & Koch http://hkpro.com/ (not the official site, but looks
interesting if you like that sort of thing)
is more what you might call mil-spec, I gather...

The following passage confirms what I was thinking earlier, that maybe Doc
is, badasserywise at least, way out of his league with Boris and thus
feels the need to boast about people he's killed and inflate his firepower:

[Boris] "You're a dangerous hombre I can see that, too
dangerous for me so I guess I better just spill the
whole thing." Doc got ready to jump out and run,
but Boris only continued.

-------------------------

Unlike the discourse on FBI and Mormons [do they really look alike,
I guess the black suits maybe...Is there any closer connection?
Well, a look at this list http://famousmormons.net/protect.html
of Mormons in protective services
- to which we must add, unless he was messing with Zoyd,
Hector Zuniga - might cause one to say, gee, short list...but
it does include the CIO of the FBI, but current, not "then-current"...

- a nastier link is
http://www.childbrides.org/politics_scoop_Big_Love_Romney_Bush_Mormons.html
which sez that Hoover liked to hire Mormons because they
could keep their mouths shut, and more links than you can shake a stick
at offer details, many of them using exact replicas of the same verbiage
as each other...

Zoyd/Doc-like lapse there...basically forgot to dwell on "Mormons and FBI"
while covering page 151
....let me reset and, ummm,
wait till it comes around again on the guitar...

------------------------------------------------

Unlike Boris's later discourses with Doc, the very early bit
right after the exchange of bluster (Doc's) and paranoia (Boris's),
I say, I say, the conversation hits pay dirt:
we got a name, a name, a palpable name:
Puck Beaverton.

Puck Beaverton. Yes, Puck Beaverton, another bodyguard,
was in on the Plan to abduct Mickey.
If he had stayed and done his job, he would have let them
in and the coup would've been bloodless.
Glen, OTOH [according to Boris] had to stand in for
Puck, who had chickened out
---- leaving Glen to die valiantly defending the perimeter that
Puck had agreed to breach.
That dirty rat!

Boris thinks Puck's in Vegas. Interesting turn of phrase: "Puck thinks
there's people there who'll look after him."
