I don't know about this . . .I'm a little concerned that Mom is
reluctant to show her love for her son to the public because her son
has long hair and smokes dope. Mothers like her, cold or too
political or concerned with keeping up appearances are satirized in
P's works. They include some very cruel and nasty Mothers, bunch in
GR, and like Slothrop's Mom and the Tim's in TSI, they are more
concerned with their manners and what the neighbors think. Also, the
Movie and TV discussion seems to cast these folks in a very negative
light. Their use of disguises and aliases, of murderers no less,
people who are into S&M, seems to clash with their stereotypical
sit-com humanity.
