Shasta Darlington

Mt. Shasta in northern California inhabits a peculiar place in the
cultural traditions that touch down in the area. It truly is a very
beautiful 14,179' volcano that has inspired a rich mythology dating as
far back as the oral histories of the native people can be traced. In
"New Age" parlance, it is one of the "power spots" of the Earth.
Whatever that means. A great deal of very nebulous popular lore seems
to get stuck to the mountain. I am not at all surprised to hear that
someone might name their child after it, even indirectly (Shasta soda,
e.g.) Of course, Shasta Darlington may be an assumed name. Darlington
is a remote town in the North Central Cascades N.E. of Everett,
Washington, which also has a history worth alluding to. It, too, is an
exceptionally lovely location. Beats naming your kid (or yourself)
after a car.
