all this is great!
my lone contribution is that what sticks in my mind is
the maniacal expression on Tricky's face.
the refitting of the Golden Fang resonates with that of the Stupendica in AtD,
and it's easy enough to see that as a metaphor.
but the actual face on the money being altered is another sign of the same
process, and the face from the Nixon rally - requiring as Doc points
out, time travel
to get the photo, then back to the past to print the counterfeits
(Dave, time travel
explains the Kareem name change, and the Nixon Shock anomaly as well!)
but of course he's notoriously stoned and prone to poetic
thought...Occam's razor shaves this down to a more manageable metaphor
for me: the face of American foreign policy became unreasonable and
its money changed in the same direction...
or, to take another tack, hepcats in the know might have noticed Lew Alcindor's
philosophical changes leading to a name change, and American money becoming
funny, before the actual fact - things usually begin trending long before they
become official...
or, like Slothrop's hardons, was there more to it than that?
