  I do agree that we need a new term though totalitarian seems  
imperfect. Well word are always  a bit  loaded and imperfect  
representatives of the details of a given reality but just to show  
that I am not too far away from  the thinking of people who were  
close to the reality and saw it clearly  here is a quote from   
Franklin D. Roosevelt on fascism

"The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the  
growth of private power to a point where it comes stronger than their  
democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership  
of government by an individual, by a group or by any controlling  
private power."
