also an interesting notion.
I keep seeing an afterimage of the techie guys in
GR, Riggs is obviously excited about the zomes, and that
aspect of him is attractive - not to mention the quadrille paper,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graph_paper, which links him to
OEA (our everlovin' author...) as noted in this article
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravity%27s_Rainbow:
"The first draft of Gravity's Rainbow was written out in neat,
tiny script on engineer's quadrille paper."
I'm not able to ignore the mass of interesting associations
you attach to his name. But I would never have found them myself
(another good reason to continue reading P-List, and to
summon just a bit of class and thank you for them...)
Because my take was, Riggs - like, rigs up things, contractor,
Homo Faber...Warbling, like singing like a bird, the happy builder...
zomes - organic forms for people to live in instead of boxes.
Iceland Spar effect - trying to see both aspects of him,
the techie and the tool...
Also, I can't think that Mr Pynchon would be oblivious to the
chimes that go off when he mentions quadrille paper, for Pete's sake...
In fact, taken at face value, certain passages in GR do seem to
reify war straight-up as a celebration of markets...
just as Saruman stared too long into the Palantir, perhaps...
and if after authoring them one realized that - rather than
being something one could satirize and have all right-thinking
people agree to correct, it was actually what was going on,
and it's like adjust or die...
This is one of those times when I repent somewhat
of the traces of my devotion to incoherence...
because if I had a certain seriousness that nothing in my
developmental praxis has bestowed on me,
I think there is a way to attach Riggs to some afterthoughts and
addenda that IV might be suggesting for GR...
But I'd probably just be muddying the waters if I elaborated
from my current status
