Phil Lesh, bassist for Grateful Dead, played lead riffs on his bass. Very
complicated interweaving with the lead guitarist, Jerry Garcia.
Query: the Dead were a big San Francisco band at the time of IV and
well-known everywhere by the time of VL, yet Pynchon never mentions them.
Anyone know a reason for this?
