Climate change:
INTRODUCTION AND SYNOPSIS
Each year many people in the United States of America
are affected by natural disasters such as floods, drought,
tornadoes and hurricanes. Some people lose everything
they own in these disasters, including their homes. Many
are unable or unwilling to rebuild their homes in the same
area, and are forced to move elsewhere. And yet, it is
difficult for most people in the U.S. to imagine losing not
just their personal belongings, but to have their entire
country disappear. This is exactly what many islanders
around the Pacific Ocean and elsewhere in the world,
however, are facing. While scientists study Earth’s
climate and look for definitive evidence of global
warming, people on many of the Pacific islands are
coming face-to-face with what they believe are clear
indications that weather and ocean patterns across the
Pacific basin are changing. . .
